Only Art Can Save Us From Ourselves: The McLuhan Institute (A Film by ZORA)

Andrew McLuhan is the founder of The McLuhan Institute, and grandson of legendary media theorist Marshall McLuhan. Marshall McLuhan’s interests in engineering and in poetry and literature curiously led him toward interest in the structure of culture and technology, particularly the nature and effects of human innovation as it reshapes humans and cultures individually and socially. This video highlights the inspiration and goals of TMI and Andrew’s continuation of McLuhan work, a monumental perspective to bring onchain.

Based

LGHT considers himself a “cryptoartist,” and he fulfills every sense of that role. In light of Base’s (Coinbase’s L2) launch, LGHT minted Based, “a token for the early adopters.” Even Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong minted the token to represent his excitement about just how early we are on the booming L2, and the journey of Ethereum more broadly. Nouns HD

Nouns HD are a derivative art project based on Nouns, minted on Base. Onchain Summer is here, and Base is already seeing some incredible community-driven art. The collection was minted by Nouns power-member and Gnars DAO founder 0xgami.

Transformation

From Jacob, co-founder of Zora, this image highlights the levers of change and the evolution of technology, better framing Zora’s role as an ecosystem and worldbuilding technology.

Infinity

Infinity is a new project from Jack Butcher and Visualize Value with a mint-and-refund mechanism. Essentially, this is not only an open edition, but it is also a refundable piece of art – you can exchange your token for your money back at any time. This is a fascinating experiment in onchain top-of-funnel: optimizing for reach and converstion rather than profits.

Pages

Pages (for Imagination) is a project by sntlss that highlights some of the key words, ideas, and values in the onchain zeitgeist today. Heavily Zora-inspired, this is a great collection to capture the moment and understand the values of onchain culture in 2023.

ENERGY

ENERGY is a new DAO launched on Nouns Builder protocol to support the Zora ecosystem. The DAO launched this week, and this token is an opportunity to collect the moment of what could be the beginning of a massively influential onchain community and uphold the values of collective creation.

Absorption

In this new digital artwork, Ikaro Cavalcante (occulted) uses vibrant colors and abstracted layers of blurred, scratching effects to obscure renderings of a corpse flower. This open edition was commissioned by Gemma, with funding support from the Mint Fund.
